Andrés Botero is a cinematographer from Cali, Colombia, based in Prague, Czech Republic. He studied Film and Television at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá before moving to Prague to complete a Master's in Cinematography at FAMU. He has lived and worked in the Czech capital for four years.
His approach begins with listening. Before a camera is raised, Andrés builds a conversation, with directors, with subjects, with the space itself; developing a visual concept that belongs only to that story. He adapts, finds solutions, and brings a deep flexibility to every set.
He is drawn to stories that live close to the skin, where light and human presence are inseparable.
His feature Second Star on the Right (2019) won the Audience Choice Award at the Boston LGBTQ Film Festival. Leading Ladies (2021) was nominated for Best Ibero-American Film at the Málaga Film Festival. Petit Mal (2022) premiered at Tribeca and was nominated for the Maguey Award at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. His short Hedgehog Dilemma received a Best Cinematography nomination at FAMU FEST, and First Day was selected for the Talent Demo section at Camerimage.
He wants to keep pursuing light, and framing emotions, for as long as he can.
